It looks like it provide functional down force now with the slight angle.

Won’t be functional down force at all. First, you’ll never get enough speed for that angle to provide any down force. Also, FWD.

The angle may help a bit with drag, filling in the wake, but it’s only for style.

It maybe provide some at highway speeds. Visually it makes it look way better.

May help to reduce drag, some other cars use little spoilers for similar means (focus econetic, golf bluemotion etc), but extremely unlikely much downforce would be made. Certainly not enough to notice at the speeds a normal runabout like a juke would see.

What does FWD have to do with it?

Duh you can only have downforce on the drive wheels, this is why F1 cars don’t have front wings.

What use is down force over non-driven wheels on a not very fast car?

Did you buy one?

I wanted a manual, turbo, hatchback (ish). I thought I get a Cooper S, but the Juke came for sale at a local dealer. Within budget, and I loved the test drive.

Aero engineer here. From what I can see, it probably provides lift over the rear axle to then cause a more neutral front axle lift (lifting up at the rear acting across the center of gravity causes ‘downforce’ on the front axle). It will also help reduce pressure drag at the rear.

And it will have an effect, starting somewhere around 50mph most likely. So it’s really for higher speed stability so the vehicle doesn’t feel like its loose/wandering on the highway.

Rear wheels need grip, too, for braking and handling. I used to autocross a mini and the rear end would step out if you lifted quickly mid turn, and Ive heard some other fwd cars also exhibit lift induced oversteer. down force at the rear would mitigate that. This spoiler won’t do that, though.

The juke would of been the perfect replacement for my 6 speed awd SX4 if they only made manual awd....

It doesn’t help with traction.

Considering the power and handling capabilities of a juke, it would need to be the size of a mattress to have any impact.

For a Juke the best spoilers are GTR spoilers.

About a lot. Downforce on non drive wheels.

If F1 cars were limited to low speeds and weighed as much as a juke, then the front wing would, indeed, be useless. Was there a point to your comment?

As would the rear wing. When you bring up the drive wheels talking about street car aerodynamics you may as well bring up the paint color. Both are equally irrelevant.

Not 100% true, but your point is somewhat valid.

So you can stay in control on a highway.

Because.....what are the wheels being dragged behind going to do to lose control? The tail doesn’t wag the dog.

Non drive wheels need grip, too. I rwd cars if the front loses grip you get under steer. In fdw cars if the rears lose grip you get oversteer. Happens for some fwd cars at the limit if you abruptly lift off the throttle.

Have you heard of upforce at highway speeds?

Yes, on something with a slant back, like a TT, at triple digit numbers.

This is none of those things, and that wing does nada.
